Modifier is disabled or returned error, skipping apply.

Hi, I am trying to apply a Boolean Modifier to get a Difference and this is the error i get. Is there a way to enable/disable Modifier. I have tried removing Doubles, still no joy.

Sorry, not even close--what i am trying to do here is make a hole in the rectangle thingee by putting a cylinder in it, choosing the Boolean Modifier 'Difference', and applying. Problem is, i get that error message when i click on apply. I tried a google search with that exact phrase and came up with a lot of stuff, but nothing worked for me. I would appreciate it if someone who knows about this will point out what i am doing wrong.

I am sure there are other ways of cutting out a hole, but i would very much prefer to have my Modifier working.

make sure you select the cube first and then the cylinder. If you want the cylinder to make the difference afcourse. And after you did that delete it (it automaticly duplicates the cylinder and cube. maybe this will help :

Thank you very much! I did not realize that the difference was duplicated and had to be dragged out, worked very well when i applied the modifier using the W key. However i still get the error when i try to apply it from the Buttons Window 'Add Modifier' option. Just want to be adept at using Blender tools, sorry to put you through so much trouble.
