My New Computer!

Postby Digit » Sat Jan 23, 2010 5:33 pm

Hey guys!
After months of difficulty with my old computer I have been able to upgrade again :D
80% of the money I used was from winning competitions using blender.
Here are my old and new specs:

Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (2.2ghz)
2GB DDR400 Ram
8400GS 512mb
320GB HDD

And my new specs:

Athlon II x4 620 (2.6ghz)
2GB DDR3 1333mhz
ATi HD4200 Built in 128mb +512mb shared
320GB HDD

Twice as fast as my old computer for rendering and it doesnt hang randomly like my old computer did! Yay! Custom built from new parts.

Thoughts?

sorry if this is a dumb question, but did you mention the company that made it, or did you make it completely from scratch? my brother and i bought an asus computer and it rocks, but when i press spacebar in blender to bring up the menu and i go to close that menu, it SLOWLY scrolls up. it's kinda hard to explain, but does anyone else have this problem? oh, back to the computer, i just got a MacBookPro, and the rendering time was like 4 times what it used to be on my old computer (not Asus, it's a Dell :P)
Dr. Daniel Jackson: This tastes like chicken.
Carter: So what's wrong with it?
Jackson: It's macaroni and cheese.

I bought the parts and assembled it myself. :)

As for the menu problem, it sound like your graphics card drivers are out of date.

To find your graphics card (if you don't know how to) follow these steps:

1. Right click "My Computer/Computer" if you are on a Microsoft Operating system (xp/vista/7)
2. Select "Properties" and find the "Device Manager" link. (top left in Windows 7, or under the "Hardware" tab in Windows XP)
3. Find Display Adapters and expand it by clicking the "+" sign.
4. Look for something that says Intel/Ati/Nvidia in it and then post what it says, or post a whole screen-shot of the window and I will tell you how to download your drivers.
